development of this state and therefore, it was our duty as a
Maharashtrian to salute their vision and courage. The Samyukta

| The program played some
new and old chorus songs “Gaurav Geete”. These
melodious patriotic songs brought back a lot of memories for some who
witnessed the time period when this movement gained momentum in 1950s,
and the program was also educational for today’s’
Marathi speaking young youth migrated to Canada as well as the second
generation Canadians who were born and brought in Canada and heard
about Maharashtra only from their parents. It was a

Maharashtra has provided
leadership in
areas such as technology, science, business, literature, music, arts
and entertainment. We got the message of equality a long time ago from
our scholarly saints Dnyaneshwar, Namdev, Tukaram, who shaped the
Maharashtrian culture through their literature. Chhatrapati Shivaji
Maharaj, has a unique place of reverence in Marathi hearts and we owe
him for today’s successful state whose leadership in the 17th
century paved the way for Marathi pride and sow the seeds of freedom.
Bravo to the joint efforts of MBM and Saptarang Radio to bring the
colourful Maharastra history live and bravo to Mr Amod Kelkar for his
excellent narration that took us down the memory lane. Meena

Namaskar!
With
great support from
our marathi community the 6th march program of Sahitya and
Sangeet Samelan was quite a success. From the feedback received so far
majority of people present were happy that it was timed well and got
over on time.
With a few exceptions most of the people really enjoyed the food and
specially the way it was served i.e. covered and hot in plates with
compartments for different delicacies.
The sahitya samelan was before dinner and went on well within time with
Mr. Aditya Azgaonkar winning the prize for best poem and Mr. Shriram
Mulgund winning the prize for essay.
The Sangeet Samelan was a variety entertainment program with songs from
Bhaktisangeet to Lavni, Stand-up comedy
and dances from again lavni, gidda, mujra and
disco.
There was also a very good short film made by Ajay Pawar to felicitate
the great cricketer Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar for his
latest records.
So taking this opportunity to thank the supporters and the people who
made possible this event we look forward to more attendees for the
Vasantik Utsav which we will celebrate with puja and prasad with
entertainment on 15th of May 2010.
